Leadership Washington County is committed to supporting local businesses. That's why we launched a donation fund that fully supported our local eateries as well as keeps hard-working hospital staff and first responders during the COVID 19 crisis.
As a leader in the community, we saw that businesses were beginning to suffer financially and that many essential workers were working around the clock during the virus. We decided to make a positive impact in the community by collecting donations to provide individual meals or gift cards from locally-owned restaurants to feed employees at Washington Health System, Monongahela Valley Hospital, Canonsburg Hospital, Washington County Fire Station, EMS, and local police stations.
The donation drive provided 100% of funds received, minus credit card transaction fees, totaling more than $10,000 in donations, which included a grant from the Washington Community Foundation Close-to-Home Disaster Emergency Fund. The money was put to good use and over 17 police, fire, and EMS Stations have received meals and 16 restaurants have participated throughout the community. Columbia Gas also contributed to the second round of meals provided to local essential works.
Our mission is to develop leaders who make an immediate yet lasting impact on our community. This program exhibited how dedicated we are to our mission and provided an immediate way to support small-business restaurant owners while giving back to our first-line responders and health care workers.
